GPS Global Policy Forum on Natural Capital

??Since 2016, the World Bank through its Global Program on Sustainability (GPS) and Wealth Accounting and the Valuation of Ecosystem Services () has been organizing the Global Policy Forum on Natural Capital. The Global Forum brings together policymakers and private sector actors as active or potential users of data on natural capital along with the providers of such data to share knowledge and experiences on using data and evidence to inform decisions that affect natural capital and economic outcomes. Previous forums focused on specific global topics, including  ???l?inks between ?Natural Capital Accounting (?NCA?)? and policy (), Sustainable Development Goals (), Biodiversity and Climate (), Integrated Landscape Management (), Greening the Post-COVID Recovery (), and Financing for Nature (2022). ? ??Like in the past, the 2024 Policy Forum is organized in collaboration with the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD).????

 

7th Policy Forum ¨C Implementing the Global Biodiversity Framework

March 5-6, 2024 | Kigali, Rwanda

The 7th Global Policy Forum on Natural Capital, Implementing the Global Biodiversity Framework: Leveraging Natural Capital Data, Accounting and Analysis to Inform Policies, took place in Kigali, Rwanda. The Forum brought together governments and other relevant stakeholders to discuss the policies that can help with the implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and thus contribute to the achievement of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) goals and targets. Over two days, in-person sessions focused on and highlighted the importance and need to leverage existing data and analytics on natural capital and ecosystem services, including natural capital accounting, to design such policies and actions.

 

6th Policy Forum ¨C Financing for Nature

November 2-3, 2022 | Online

The 2022 Forum focused on financing for nature with discussion on the role natural capital and ecosystem services data and analytics plays in investment and policy decisions. Emphasis was on connecting users¡ªprimarily the investment community and policy makers¡ªwith the data and analytics, and the data producers.

 

September 15-16, 2021 | Online Event

The Fifth Policy Forum discussed practical ways in which Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) can make green recovery initiatives more effective and sustainable. The Policy Forum enabled the NCA community and those working on green recovery policies to discuss the data needs for green recovery policies and how NCA  provides those needs to guide green recovery efforts and institutional reforms.
