Twenty-one participants from Brazil, Colombia, and Peru gathered for a week in July to learn how local communities in Guatemala are protecting more than 500,000 hectares of forest, through community concessions granted by the government, while also generating economic and social benefits. Participants were from local communities working on forest management, governmental and non-governmental institutions, and specialists in forest management and conservation.
