Lao PDR has made great strides in reducing poverty from 33.5% in 2003 to 23.2% in 2013. Although life in Lao PDR is in some ways better, many households are still highly vulnerable to falling back into poverty. Higher poverty reduction in Lao PDR can be achieved by creating better economic opportunities for both the poor and non-poor, and by strengthening the social protection system.
