TICAD VI Side Event “Future of Food in Sub-Saharan Africa: Reviewing Progress, Charting Next Steps”
August 26, 2016Kempinski Hotel Villa Rosa, Nairobi, Kenya

For security reasons, please come to the venue well in advance.

This side event is organized with the objective of promoting the partnership of the development partners, with emphasis on that with the GoJ, through appreciating the recent development of the agriculture sector and setting the agenda of the future of the agriculture and food in Sub Saharan Africa.

The event consists of two sessions. The first session has been structured as a high-level discussion on “The Future of Food in Sub Saharan Africa” and will showcase the power of partnership and highlight Japanese contributions to sustainable development of Africa’s agriculture and food sectors, including the successful work of the Coalition for African Rice Development (CARD). Following the key-note speech by the Bank’s Acting Vice President, there will be scene-setting presentations to review our progress toward the African Green Revolution and the contribution of the CG institutions, as well as commentaries from panelists who are the key figures to structure the agriculture sector development of the region.

The second part of the side event will be a technical workshop to discuss the emerging and critical issues to enhance the quality of our work and the impact on the ground. This event will highlight such subjects as nutrition, climate-smart agriculture, job creation including mechanization and promoting resilience in semi-arid climate and both the Bank and JICA will present their strategies and approaches to address these issues. Finally, the session will showcase the achievement of the Policy and Human Resource Development (PHRD) Trust Fund as an instrument of the GoJ to translate the TICAD Action Plans into the investment projects of the Bank. Both sessions will accommodate discussions and comments from the floor before conclusion.
