The Financial and Private Sector Development Network and Development Research Group of the World Bank organized the 11th Overview Course of Financial Sector Issues. The 2014 course focused on Challenges and Priorities for Financial Sector Policy Makers.

The 11th Overview Course of Financial Sector Issues in 2014 focuses on Challenges and Priorities for Financial Sector Policy Makers. In the aftermath of the Great Recession and Euro Debt Crisis, financial sector policy makers around the world are being confronted with constant volatility and uncertainty. The course will discuss the challenges and priorities faced by policy makers in the financial sector around the world. In each session, participants will have opportunities to ask questions and engage in discussions with renowned scholars and policy experts, who will identify the critical questions related to each topic, explore the analytics of the issues, and share lessons from various countries’ experiences. Featured thought leaders include Viral Acharya (Stern School of Business, New York University), Thorsten Beck (Cass Business School and Tilburg University), Charles Calomiris (Columbia University Graduate School of Business), Douglas Elliot (Brookings Institution), Simon Johnson (MIT and Peterson Institute for International Economics), Eswar Prasad (Cornell University and Brookings Institution), and Anthony Saunders (Stern School of Business, New York University), among others.

The course is intended for mid-level officials from central banks, ministries of finance, and financial regulatory agencies in developing countries, as well as staff involved in financial operations from international development organizations and the private sector. Prior knowledge of financial issues is expected, and we suggest that only those with experience in this field attend. The course will be in English.

The event registration has been closed. The registration fee is US$1,500, which covers all course materials plus admission to all seminar sessions. Travel, accommodations, and other expenses are not included, and are the responsibility of each participant.
