Mr. Mark Lundell is currently the Regional Director for Sustainable Development for Eastern and Southern Africa. Prior to that he was the World Bank Country Director for Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Comoros and Seychelles, resident in Mozambique. An American national, his experience at the World Bank includes previous positions in China, Brazil, and Europe and Central Asia.
Prior to his appointment as Country Director in Mozambique in 2014, he served as Sector Manager for Sustainable Development for China and Mongolia in the Asia-Pacific region, based in China. Prior to his role in China, Mr. Lundell was Sector Leader for Sustainable Development in Brazil (2006-2012), with residence in Brazil.
Mr. Lundell has also worked in the European and Central Asian Regions between 1993-2006 as Lead Economist and Rural Sector Coordinator.
Mr. Lundell holds a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California - Berkeley, and a BA in Economics from Georgetown University, Washington DC. He is fluent in English, French, Portuguese, and Russian.
