Karin Kemper is the Global Director for Environment, Natural Resources and Blue Economy at the World Bank.
In her career spanning over 25 years, Dr. Kemper has worked on global environmental, natural resources and water issues. She has served in a range of functions at the World Bank, including as the Senior Director for Environment and Natural Resources, Senior Regional Advisor in the Office of the Vice President of the Latin America and Caribbean Region and as the World Bank Director of Climate Policy and Finance. She has also held managerial positions in the South Asia and Latin America and Caribbean regions.
In her current assignment, she drives the policy direction of the World Bank's Environment, Natural Resources and Blue Economy Global Practice, including a portfolio of more than US$8 billion in investments, analytical work, multi-donor trust funds and global engagements. An institutional economist, she has published extensively on the economics of water resources management and has led studies on natural resources and environmental management worldwide.
Dr. Kemper is a German national and holds a Ph.D. in Water and Environmental Studies and a B.Sc. in International Business Administration and Economics from Link?ping University in Sweden as well as a M.Sc. in Nutrition and Integrative Health from Maryland University of Integrative Health in the United States.
