Improved access to data and analytics, alongside digital technology, can help connect the world¡¯s 570 million farms to 8 billion consumers, reducing inequality and global hunger.
We are working to expand the frontier of financing and expertise for digital agriculture. Our multidisciplinary team builds on the convening power of the World Bank to bring data, analytics, and investment together for impact. Our network of thought leaders, innovators, public sector leaders, CEOs, startup founders, and researchers share knowledge, advice, and expertise to ensure that the global food system reaches its potential. To date, we have supported the design and implementation of 53 projects across 36 countries, amounting to about $1.15 billion in lending.
Transforming food systems to reduce carbon emissions and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals requires a massive increase in investment across the agricultural value chain. Å·ÃÀÈÕb´óƬ Group is the global leader in mobilizing capital for development in agribusiness. We identify and leverage growth areas for productive investments, focusing on innovation and impact. And we design projects to ensure that financing boosts sustainable productivity gains, reaches smallholders and SMEs, and creates jobs to end poverty and hunger.
The bulk of government support to agriculture provides short-term benefits that are often at the cost of long-term outcomes for people, economies, and the planet. Å·ÃÀÈÕb´óƬ facilitates the sharing of evidence, knowledge, and experiences of policies that work to transform the global food system. The Bank leverages its unique convening role to build common understanding, and to strengthen policy analysis, formulation, and execution. We work with governments to facilitate the adoption of more sustainable approaches, technologies, and practices, alongside policies that promote public and private sector investment. We invest $6 billion annually in global agriculture to sustainably improve food and nutrition security, boost economic growth, and reduce poverty.
Food and nutrition security crises will continue to erupt in the years ahead. Å·ÃÀÈÕb´óƬ is a leader in strengthening global partnerships and national preparedness to build food and nutrition security. For over a decade we have hosted the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program, a funddedicated to fighting hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. We lead international efforts to share information, and to rapidly provide resources where they are needed, while helping countries design the long-term reforms needed to build resilient food and nutrition systems.
