The Challenge:
The European Union is providing significant support to North Macedonia for the implementation of the EU Green Deal. This requires a country-specific smart specialization strategy that would incorporate the EU Green Deal into the country's economic development approach. The government of North Macedonia is committed to supporting the recovery of its economy through the preparation of a Smart Specialization Strategy that will ensure that its post-COVID recovery growth strategy is aligned with the EU Green Deal and the commitments made on implementing the requirements.
The Mission:
Through funding from C-JET, the World Bank is implementing a grant in North Macedonia to support the preparation of the country¡¯s Smart Specialization Strategy. The grant will provide technical assistance in completing analytical work on the strategy and consultations will be held to define strategic goals and interventions. The investment climate reforms needed for the successful implementation of the strategy¡¯s objectives will be provided in sector-specific action plans and operational guidance, including strategies for attracting FDI and green investments. Through the implementation these activities and more, this grant aims to strengthen North Macedonia¡¯s business environment while improving the productivity of existing businesses and supporting alignment with the European Green Deal.
