Oceans for Indonesia's Prosperity: Towards a Sustainable Ocean and Blue Economy Strategy

For Indonesia, oceans are vital for its economy and welfare. With more than 17,500 islands and three-quarters of its territory at sea, oceans are central to Indonesia's prosperity. Yet, Indonesia's marine and coastal ecosystems and their economic value are under threat due to overfishing, degradation of mangroves and coral reefs, and marine debris. A sustainable ocean economy strategy can address these challenges, achieving healthy oceans, resilient coastal livelihoods and a thriving economy. In this video, our partners at the @National Geographic Indonesia journeyed with us to the eastern ends of Indonesia to document the people of Raja Ampat, West Papua who have worked passionately to protect the oceans and empower its communities.
