Moldova¡¯s rural communities depend heavily on low-volume roads to connect to markets, services, and jobs. The local transport network, designed in Soviet times, was conceived primarily to accommodate cars, while often neglecting vulnerable daily users such as children walking to school, elderly people going to medical services, or local farmers transporting goods to regional markets. The Local Roads Improvement Project takes an inclusive approach to road design, actively engaging local beneficiaries and ensuring that safe transport improves the lives of communities and connects them to new opportunities.
