MOSCOW, June 2, 2021 ¨C Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin of Russia. President Malpass and Prime Minister Mishustin held constructive talks regarding the World Bank¡¯s evolving relationship with Russia, Russia¡¯s transition to a lower-carbon economy, and Russia¡¯s support for the world¡¯s poorest countries through Å·ÃÀÈÕb´óƬ.
President Malpass and Prime Minister Mishustin discussed joint preparation of one of the Bank¡¯s first Country Climate and Development Reviews for Russia. President Malpass highlighted the global importance of addressing both COVID-19 and climate change and noted that the World Bank is actively engaged with many of Russia¡¯s neighbors on development and climate. They also discussed progress made in developing the World Bank-Russian Federation Development Knowledge Exchange Program and Platform.
President Malpass and Prime Minister Mishustin discussed unsustainable debt burdens in the poorest countries, Russia¡¯s role in the Paris Club of creditors, and the need for transparency and comprehensive debt treatment.
President Malpass also appreciated Prime Minister Mishustin¡¯s presentation on Russia¡¯s whole of government approach to implementing National Development Goals and federal taxation.
