Nepal and the World Bank ¨C 50 Years of Development Partnership

For the past five decades, the World Bank Group has been a development partner in Nepal, providing financing, technical assistance and advice. Over the years, the Bank¡¯s support has evolved in focus and form to meet the changing needs of Nepal. This partnership however has always maintained a primary purpose - the reduction of poverty to raise the living standards of the Nepali people.

Swarnim Yatra ¨C A Remarkable Journey

Swarnim Yatra is a celebration of this partnership and of this continuous journey. Above all, it is a celebration of a nation of remarkably resilient people, achieving impressive development results in the face of tremendous challenges.

These development results are showcased through photographs, videos (see Related), and a slideshow depicting how Nepali men and women are transforming their lives whether it is a young girl who now has a chance to go to school, or a farmer who can now transport his vegetables to the market or a rural entrepreneur who has big dreams for her family.

The showcased results focus on four themes:

  • Enhancing Inclusive Growth and Productivity
  • Enhancing Human Potential
  • Building Better Lives
  • Promoting Gender Equality

Special Commemorative Event

On March 18, 2013, the government of Nepal and the World Bank Group is organizing a special commemorative event to celebrate 50 years of partnership and Nepal¡¯s development results. On the occasion, a special commemorative stamp issued by the Department of Postal Services will be released. The event will also include a photographic exhibition and video screening.

The exhibition organized at the Yak and Yeti Hotel, Kathmandu will remain open from March 18-19 (9 AM ¨C 6 PM).
