The World Bank Tokyo Development Learning Center (TDLC) in collaboration with the World Bank Tokyo Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Hub organized a virtual Technical Deep Dive (TDD) on Disaster Risk Management and Resilient Infrastructure from February 14 to 18, 2022.
From serving our most basic needs to enabling our most ambitious ventures in trade, technology and social-economic development, infrastructure assets and services dependable on it are essential for raising and maintaining people¡¯s quality of life, access to job and opportunities and achieving sustainability goals. Yet millions of people, especially in low- and middle-income countries, are facing the consequences of unreliable electricity grids, inadequate water and sanitation systems, and overstrained transport networks. Natural hazards magnify the challenges faced by these fragile systems.
In this context, the Disaster Risk Management and Resilient Infrastructure TDD showcased Japan¡¯s decades-long journey towards the development of disaster risk management systems to protect infrastructure and promote resilience in such key sectors for society¡¯s wellbeing; at the same time, the TDD served as a platform for countries facing similar infrastructure challenges to find appropriate solutions by learning from their global peers.
